World Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22nd, is a global event dedicated to raise awareness and take action to protect the environment. In line with this theme, Girl Guides of the Govt Queen Mary Graduate College, organized as series of events to commemorate World Earth Day. Ms. Breira Abdullah, supervised the activities to ensure their success under the kind guidance of the head of Institute, Dr Sidra Amir.
Main objectives of the events were:
To raise awareness about environmental issues among students.
To promote sustainable practices and encourage students to take action.
To motivate a sense of responsibility towards protecting the Earth among the college community.
Tree Plantation Drive: The day commenced with a tree plantation drive on the college premises. Girl Guides, along with students and faculty members, planted saplings of indigenous trees to promote greenery and combat climate change.
Recycling Campaign: A recycling campaign was organized to encourage students to reduce, reuse, and recycle materials. Recycling bins were placed across the campus, and students were educated on the importance of proper waste management.
Art Exhibition: An art exhibition showcasing artworks created from recycled materials was displayed in the college auditorium. The exhibition aimed to highlight the creative potential of upcycling and inspire students to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.
Clean-up Drive: A clean-up drive was conducted in collaboration with local authorities to clean nearby parks and streets. Students participated enthusiastically, demonstrating their commitment to keeping the environment clean and litter-free.

The World Earth Day celebration at Queen Mary College, led by the Girl Guides under the supervision of Ms. Breira Abdullah, In charge Girl Guides, was a resounding success. Through a series of engaging activities and educational initiatives, students were empowered to become proactive stewards of the environment. The event not only raised awareness about pressing environmental issues but also inspired concrete actions towards building a more sustainable future. Moving forward, it is imperative to sustain the momentum generated by this event and continue fostering a culture of environmental consciousness within the college community and beyond.
