Overview

The Department of Geography holds the distinction of being one of the oldest departments at Govt. Queen Mary Graduate College (GQMGC). It has been producing knowledgeable students at the intermediate level since 1950 and at the graduate level since 1966. The department owes much gratitude to esteemed teachers and professors like Ms. Farhat, Ms. Jhon, Ms. Doger, Ms. Shereen, Ms. Shahista, Ms. Shahnaz, Ms. Ghazala Iqbal, and Ms. Sajeeda Ejaz, who have contributed to its progress and betterment, serving as the head of the department at different times. Excitingly, the department is set to launch the BS (4 Year) degree Program in 2024. Ms. Dimple Pervaiz excellently served as the Head of the department from 2021 to 2023. Presently, Mrs. Rumana Siddiqui is successfully leading the geography department at GQMGC.

Scope

The scope of studying Geography for female students in college is extensive, offering opportunities for diverse career paths such as urban planning, environmental management, GIS analysis, cartography, sustainable development, international relations, and cultural heritage preservation, enabling them to make meaningful contributions to understanding our world, addressing global challenges, and shaping a more sustainable and inclusive future.

These are just a few examples of the many possibilities for female students with a Geography degree. The field of geography is broad and interdisciplinary, allowing individuals to combine their interests and skills with geographic knowledge to make a positive impact in various sectors.

The Geographical Society

The Geographical Society is the student body for encouragement of geographical knowledge. This Society support geographers in Pakistan and across the world. It was founded in 1981 for the promotion and advancement of geographical sciences.

Society aims to follow the theme of National geographic society by committing to exploring, illuminating, and protecting the wonder of our world.
